Infiniti is a brand of luxury car created by Nissan. Sales of Infiniti officially started in 1989 in North America to compete with Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, BMW, Lincoln and Volvo. Since then, their global operations have been expanded to also cover Panama, Mexico, Middle East, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, China and Ukraine. Today, Infiniti's global network includes over 230 distributors in 15 countries. Nissan's strategy is similar to that of companies Honda and Toyota, which created its own luxury brand Acura and Lexus.

The mark is not used in Japan to be equivalent Nissan Infiniti models in the country, such as: Nissan Skyline sedan and coupe (Infiniti G sedan and coupe), Nissan Fuga (Infiniti M), Nissan Skyline crossover (Infiniti EX) and Nissan Cima (Infiniti Q45). The Infiniti FX has no equivalent Nissan and is not sold in Japan. The first generation of Infiniti Q45 was sold as the Nissan Infiniti Q45 in Japan.

Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., announced the arrival in Europe of Infiniti at the Geneva Motor Show 2008. The official launch is scheduled for autumn 2008 and will be phased in over two years, during which Infiniti will deploy its operations in 21 European countries. The headquarters of Infiniti Europe is located in Rolle, Switzerland.
