Lotus Cars is a UK manufacturer specializing in sports cars, based in Hethel, Norfolk, created as Lotus Engineering Ltd. by engineer Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman in 1952. In the years 1960 and actively participated in 70 Formula 1 races.

In 1986 the company was acquired by General Motors and resold in 1993 to ACBN Luxembourg group, which is controlled by the Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli, also owns Bugatti company. In 1996, most Lotus shares were sold to Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd (Proton), automotive company in the state of Malaysia.

The company also acts as an engineering consultant, performs developments, particularly suspension for other builders.
