The Engesa 4 - or EE-12 in the military version - was created by Engesa, a São Paulo company that was active in the manufacture of war materials. It was consecrated as the main supplier of tanks for the Brazilian army, producing armored wheels and mats. The EE-12 was created to be a versatile off-road vehicle as a support for quick operations. His mechanics were developed in Brazil, except for the engine, which was borrowed from the Opal four-cylinder. Its body is of stamped steel with a canvas top and its suspensions have an extraordinary stroke. Allied to a rigid structure, they contributed to make it able to overcome the greatest challenges.

It was released to the public at the 84th Motor Show where he made a bang success. In 1988 came Phase 2, which brought improvements that made it more comfortable and easier to drive.
