Dr. Kim, the founder of ATT R&D Co., believed electric vehicles (EVs) should become the main stream of transportational means in early 21th century.
They at ATT R&D Co. started development of light-weight full passenger EV in 1997 and built a running prototype in 2001. The EV, named PARADE, participated in Tour de Sol and completed the route of around 700km on public road in the U.S. The EV was ground-up design with aluminum-space-framed body. It also had features desirable for EV such as 400-liter battery room under the passenger compartment and 50 to 50 weight distributions by locating the traction motor between the rear wheels. They still believe PARADE deserve commercial production with little change even today. However, they could not put PARADE into mass production due to lack of financial resources for the last ten years. They are now seeking opportunity to reincarnate PARADE as an electric taxi.
On-going Efforts for On-Road EV
They released INVITA, a Low Speed Vehicle (LSV) model, in 2003. Most of other LSVs were designed using technology and parts carried over from golf cars. They applied technology developed for PARADE into INVITA and used automotive components. They built around 150 INVITA and around 80 were sold in Hawaii, Texas, California and other part of U.S. where it was registered as legal LSV. They had to postpone the plan to mass produce it, as Murray Capital in California failed to perform per the joint venture agreement it made with us in 2002. They are now working for financing to resume production of INVITA from early 2011.
Accumulation of Experiences in EVs
They have worked for various EV and hybrid EV (HEV) development project since 2004 to survive against very much hostile business environment which became favorable in 2009. They have converted at least 4 passenger car models, 2 mini truck models, 1 bus model, 1 mining truck model.
Expansion of Business Areas
They provided consulting services to at least 7 Korean firms and 1 Italian firm. Their consulting service covered areas of engineering, EV development, strategic planning and outsourcing. They have developed also a few critical EV components. They developed a patented technology for water-cooled motor housing and commercialized high-performance water-cooled motors and exported to Italy. They are developing battery management systems and electric parking brakes and integrated controller which contains a motor controller, a charger, a DC/DC converter.
Passion for the Future
They have renewed the dream they had 13 years ago. They know they are very close to where they wished to reach in their dream.
Their Mission
ATT R&D has contributed to bringing affordable EVs and HEVs available. They have performed under extremely hostile conditions. They will do their best to make more people enjoy benefits of affordable EVs and HEVs as early as possible.
