The Ford Motor Company, better known simply as Ford, is an American multinational automaker based in Dearborn (Michigan, USA). It was founded on June 16, 1903 by Henry Ford in Detroit (Michigan). According to Fortune magazine, DaimlerChrysler and Toyota Motor outperformed Ford, ranking respectively as the second and third group of global automobile manufacturers with more revenue in 2004. For many years, Ford was the overall number two behind General Motors. Ford remains one of the 500 largest corporations by revenue.
The Ford Motor Company also owns the Mercury brand (until closing) and Lincoln. Currently, Ford has assembly plants in many countries of the world and make cars for different countries based on local tastes. It currently offers two hybrid models, the Ford Fusion (US) and the Ford Escape.
